Peacefully at Houses of Providence, Providence HealthCare, at the age of 59.  Treasured daughter of the late Joseph and Edythe Kelley ( nee McLaughlin ). Beloved sister of Catherine, Cecilia and the late Matthew Kelley.  Dear aunt to Joseph.  Mary-Margaret graduated from U of T with an Honours Degree in Fine Arts after which she had the once-in-a-lifetime adventure of a back-pack trip to Europe with friends.  She received a diploma in book editing from Centennial College and a teaching degree from OISE.  At this point, the physical challenges of MS, which she had fought long and hard to keep under control, became too overwhelming.  The family would like to extend sincere thanks to those who assisted in maintaining Mary-Margaret’s quality of life while she was in Long Term Care : Betty Riley, Beverley Hignell, Peter and Myra Cunti, the fabulous, committed staff and caregivers at the Elkie Adler MS Clinic ( Baycrest ) and, particularly, the nurses and caregivers at Houses of Providence ( Maple and Spruce House ).  Cremation has taken place and a gathering of friends will be scheduled at a later date.  The family requests that any donations be in support of the Baycrest Foundation ( 416.785.2875 or www.baycrest.org/give ), Elke Adler MS Clinic, Mary-Margaret Kelley Memorial Fund.

Miss Olha Zelenjy

Miss Olha Zelenjy

Miss Olha Zelenyj Any alumna who was at Notre Dame from the late sixties to mid nineties would likely have been fortunate to be taught Math by Miss Olha Zelenyj.  Miss Zelenyj passed away earlier this year on April 13, 2010. For most of the years that she taught at Notre Dame, she was a homeroom teacher who was quietly supportive and encouraging of the students in all school activities.  She was extremely passionate about Math and the Arts – both Visual and Performing.  She was the most generous person that you would ever meet, giving freely of her time to help students in Math and most of the extracurricular activities at our school.  She was a really kind person – always there to lend a helping hand, in any way that was needed – a true friend.  Notre Dame has lost a loyal supporter.

Thank you for remembering Mrs. B. It was so wonderful to see so many of our Mom’s favourite people at her funeral.
Our Mom was very proud of her years at Notre Dame. She was always so happy and very proud when ever she ran into or heard about one of her “girls”. In the past few years our Mom even started to wear my Notre Dame ring, and was always willing to give the complete history of Notre Dame, the Associates and CND to anyone who happened to even glance at the ring!
Thank you to all of Notre Dame for making our Mom feel so special and loved.

I just saw the obit for Sister Hiller. I remember her fondly from St Brigid’s. She taught us music and I recall going to choir competitions. I know she taught me/us a song about Canada (my country is my cathedral….) and I still can hear her stressing a particular inflection in that song…haha. I also remember her wearing her “habit” (oops, showing my age!) and her pulling out that little musical tune-thingy from it. Rest in peace Sister and thank you for sharing your love of music with me :)

I remember that too. And it was so exciting to be in the choir she took to Massey Hall one year!

I received a call this evening regarding an upcoming reunion tea. Went to the NDHS site and read that Sister McKenna had passed away almost a year ago – on my fathers birthday no less. She was one of the most influential people in my life. She inspired my love of the written word and she didn’t care what the read was. She told me to just read. I have books that I’ve held on to for 40 plus years hoping my children will some day want to read and appreciate them as much as I did/do and you know what Sister, they do! I’ve given them the gift that you gave me. Thank you so very much.

I am saddened to learn that one of my favourite teachers, Sister Anne McNally passed away a couple of years ago. She was always a bright spot in my day and I fondly remember the twinkle in her eye when listening to our atrocious sight readings in Latin! Her love and enthusiasm for the race horse Northern Dancer made my teenage self truly realize that she was a real person with real passions outside of her vocation!

Loved Mrs. B, she was always so encouraging and wanted me to go back to N.D. and teach. She was such a people person who cared about us. I won’t forget her.
