(Updated July, 2011)

One year after graduating ND I attended a party where I met a Neil McNeil grad (Luc Gaudet) and it’s the fact that we went to those schools that got us talking and we’ve been together ever since (married in 1983).  We have 3 beautiful daughters and have resided in Pickering for 24 years where my hubby is a Firefighter.  I was a stay at home Mom for 10 years.  When my youngest started Junior Kindergarten I started night school at Centennial College in Travel & Tourism.  After graduating I became a travel agent and then in 1998 started my own cruise only travel agency in Pickering called Cruise Holidays of Metro East.  In 2006 I bought a century old house in Pickering Village (Ajax) and moved my business there.  I have been blessed with a wonderful family and the opportunity to travel and see the world.  In January 2012 my husband and I are going to be travelling to Equidor and sailing around the Galapagos Islands.

Margot continues to deepen her vocation, which is centered on the belief that writing our voice shapes hope and healing. She is often invited to offer talks and workshops at prisons and healing centres across Canada and the US. She has shared the stage with Sr. Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking, speaking of the fact that hope and healing can come even after violent crime. Her published books include Sawbonna: A Real Life Restorative Justice Story and The Other Inmate. Mediating Justice-Mediating Hope. Poetry and Workbook for Restorative Practices. Margot is the proud Mom of Olivia and Jessica, the elated Grandmother of Riley, and is soon to be blessed with a Grand-daughter.

  2. June 14, 2011

Margot graduated from Notre Dame in 1980, and will always have the deepest love for Sr. Lucille Corrigan, who was her poignant support after her Father, Theodore Van Sluytman was murdered in Scarborough in 1978.

      Hi Carol,
Wow, after all these years. Would love to get together some time and talk over old times adding a splash of the current. Maybe we could touch base with a few others and meet at a convenient location for all.
      Keep well,

    Class of ’78.
I’m delighted to have found this site – thanks to Teresa D’Agostino (Plati) for sharing. I attended U of T (Scarborough campus) majoring in English after Notre Dame. I have three wonderful children, Miriam, Matthew and Mark. Miriam just attained her Masters in Applied Disability Studies, specializing in Autistic Behavioural Therapies. She is married, with a wee daughter Kealii (meaning ‘Beautiful One’ in Gaelic) and with another babe on the way.
After Notre Dame, and raising the children, I worked for a local newspaper and advanced to position of Editor. I now work for Mercedes-Benz Financial, Sales & Marketing, in Mississauga. I’m enjoying life and friends/family in many sports (including ball hockey, volleyball) and sailing my 36′ Catalina in the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay. And I thank God every day for all my blessings!

Wonderful to have heard about the anniversary celebration through my parish bulletin. After leaving ND in 78 I went into Nursing graduating with my diploma in 80. I went to work at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto and have been there ever since. I recevied my BScN and MSc from Mc Master University and work full time as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in children’s pain. I married my high school sweetheart and we are celebrating 30 years of marriage next month. We have an amazing son who is in his second year in the Respiratory Therapy Program in North Bay.
We moved from the East End to Mississauga where we have stayed.
I still keep in touch with Kathy McLellan a 78 grad but that remains my only tie back to Notre Dame. They were wonderful times with many great memories.
Hope to hear from more 78 grads! Looking forward to attending the celebration in October.

I ran into someone I know who graduated years before me. She mentioned the Notre Dame website and I thought I would take a look. It was nice to see Lorraine’s comments. I was a Manager at Bell Canada until 1996. I then stayed home for a few years with my girl’s. I went back to work as a Senior Telecommunication Specialist from 2002 to 2012 at WSIB. I will be married to my husband Dave for 30 years in August 2014. We have two great daughters. Alexa is 24. She graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Arts and Education. She is a teacher for the Durham School Board. Sarah is 20. She graduates as a EA from Fleming College in June. She will be going to George Brown in September for Post Grad specializing in Autism Behaviour. My only ties with Notre Dame is with Elizabeth McRae. We were each other’s Maid of Honours and she is Godmother to my daughter Alexa. I live in Pickering and life is good.

Hello to all of you who attended N.D. especially 1972 – 1976. Although I left after graduating from 11th grade I have fond memories of many friendships from those years.
At the tender age of 54 1/4 I am looking forward to September 30th when I will officially be able to receive senior discounts! I’ve enjoyed a blessed life, of course with it’s ups and downs but Jesus my Savior has walked with me across each mountain and valley and His strength has sustained me. I now live in the greater Atlanta GA area with my husband who is one of my greatest gifts. My daughter is nearing 30 and she has given us a wonderful grandson, Nathaniel, who will be seven years old in July… he is the apple of his Sweet Peas (my grandma name) eye!

I would love to hear from any of my old friends (not saying you are old) who would like to reconnect. Please feel free to email me. Sandy Thompson (Cheeseman) I’d love to hear from you.

    Blessings,

    Roseanne

Hello. My name is Margaret Giles (nee O’Brien). I graduated in 1973. I lived in Vancouver for a few years and now live in Toronto with my (as my graduation saying says “my knight in shining armour”) husband Michael. We have two sons; Graham, who is a chartered accountant and Jonathan who is completing his Masters’ Degree in Linguistic Anthropology. I am very involved in my church of Our Lady of Fatima where our graduation mass was held many years ago. I am a Bike Mentor with Culture Link (helping newcomers to Toronto discover the City by bike) and am an avid cyclist. I work as a legal assistant at a great firm in downtown Toronto. I ride my bike most days to work, from Scarborough. I still keep in touch with Anne-Marie Catalano (now Dodgson); we remain good friends. I love to travel and have recently returned from Ireland with my son Jonathan. We travelled to Greece a few years ago. I sometimes wonder what happened to some of my class-mates; most especially Linda Toots and Connie Tine (sp?). If you ever hear about them, let me know. God bless you all.

I moved to Dallas, TX where I met my husband of 25 years, Bill. We have two kids, Andrea who is a 5th year senior at the University of South Carolina, and Kyle, who is a senior at Clemson University. Both are majoring in accounting, but I have a feeling that Andrea will become a professional photographer, and Kyle, a musician. His band is Horizon (see facebook). At least they have Plan B in place :) I was on the “mommy track” for many years, and now work for a CPA firm. I studied karate for many years, and I love photography! Bill and I camp, cycle, and spend as much time with our kids as possible. Life is good!
